Awarding of Scholarships

Purpose
To provide a procedure to follow for the purpose of awarding scholarships and to ensure that all those submitting their marks are treated on an equitable basis.


Policy Statement
1. In 1990 the City of St. John’s established a scholarship program for City Employee’s children. These scholarships are to be presented to the high school graduate with the highest average in the following public exams as established by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador: English 3201, Math 3204 or 3205 and two other high school public exam marks to be submitted at the candidate's discretion. Candidates must also successfully complete the necessary course work for entrance to a post secondary institution such as Memorial University, Cabot Institute, etc. The scholarships are valued at $1,000.00 each. The following criteria are to be followed:
2. The minimum average as indicated above, for receiving a scholarship be set at 80%. Two students who meet or exceed this average will be awarded these scholarships.

3. If we do not have two who have an 80% average or better, then one or both scholarships will not be awarded for that year.
