Lost And Found Pets

If you have lost or found an animal, please contact us by calling Access St. John's at 311 or 709-754-CITY(2489). Also, email humaneservices@stjohns.ca with your lost pets description, age, sex, color, location lost and current pictures. This lost and found service is updated on a daily basis. Our goal is to match lost animals with their owners.

These animals are currently impounded at the City's Animal Care & Adoption Centre:

Animals that are impounded, of suitable temperament, and not claimed by their owners within a five-day period may be offered for adoption. Check out our Adoptable Pets as well.

Tips if you have lost your pet

Here are some helpful tips when trying to locate a missing pet:

1. Make sure you contact your local animal shelters and leave a detailed lost report. Include a picture of the pet if possible. Please note: There are two animal shelters in the City of St. John's that house lost cats and dogs:
   • City of St. John's Humane Services Animal Care & Adoption Centre, 81 Higgins Line. Phone Access St. John's at 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489)
   • SPCA Animal Shelter, 115 RCAF Road. Phone: 709-726-0301
2. Call the local vet clinics and file a lost pet report in case your animal has been injured.
3. Contact Heavenly Creatures, radio stations, newspapers, the Buy and Sell magazine and file a lost pet report.
4. Post lost pet signs in your neighbourhood at convenience stores, supermarkets and on other public bulletin boards.
5. If you have lost a cat, check in sheds, garages, warehouses, under decks or anywhere the cat may hide or get trapped.
6. File a lost report with www.facebook.com/nlpetfinder.
7. If you are not from St. John's, contact your local town council and report your lost pet. Most communities outside St. John's have temporary holding facilities that house stray animals.
8. Get the children in your neighbourhood involved and, if possible, offer a reward.
9. Ask your mail or newspaper carrier to watch out for your lost animal.

The City of St. John's Humane Services Animal Care and Adoption Centre keeps records of residents who find a stray animal and are willing to hold the animal safely in their home. If a concerned pet owner files a lost report at the shelter, staff will successfully reunite the animal safely without delay.

Please remember your local animal care facility has dozens of lost pets entering the shelter weekly. Your lost pet may be one of them.

Dog licensing is the law. Cat licensing is also available. Please license your pet today. It will make it easier to reunite you with your pet should it become lost.
