AMENDMENT NO. 1508 & 1546
FIRE HYDRANT BY-LAW
PASSED BY COUNCIL ON September 10, 2001


Pursuant to the powers vested in it under the City of St. John’s Act, R.S.N. 1990, c.C-17, as amended and all other powers enabling it, the City of St. John’s enacts the following By-Law relating to the regulation of fire hydrants.
BY-LAW

1. This By-Law may be cited as the “St. John’s Fire Hydrant By-Law”.

2. In this By-Law:

“Private Fire Hydrant” means a fire hydrant which is not owned and/or maintained by the City of St. John’s.

“Public Fire Hydrant” means a fire hydrant which is owned and/or maintained by the City of St. John’s.

3. All Private Fire Hydrants located within the City of St. John’s shall be painted red.

3.1 Private Fire Hydrants shall be used only for fire protection and suppression unless otherwise authorized by the Director of Public Works and Parks. (Amended 05/30/2011; #1546)

4. No person other than an employee or contractor of the City of St. John’s shall paint a Public Fire Hydrant.

5. Any person who contravenes the provisions of this By-Law shall be guilty of an offence and liable upon summary conviction to a penalty as provided for in Section 403 of the City of St. John’s Act, or where a violation notice is issued, to a penalty as provided for in Section 403.2 of the City of St. John’s Act.
